Default Net zero means doubling gas-fired power

A study by energy analysts claims that achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 would require doubling the amount of gas-fired power in Australia.

The study suggests that gas will be needed as a transitional fuel to replace coal-fired power until renewable energy sources can be fully developed.

According to the report, gas-fired power will play a crucial role in supporting the growth of renewable energy and provide backup power during periods of low renewable energy production.

The report has drawn criticism from environmentalists who argue that a focus on gas will only delay the transition to renewable energy and that the government should prioritize investment in renewable energy technologies.

The study comes ahead of the upcoming United Nations climate summit, where countries are expected to announce new emissions reduction targets.

The study was published on the 19/04/23 at https://www.netzeroaustralia.net.au/...lling-results/
